Translating Emotion: Ben Riback’s Journey from Music to Visual Art in 'Inspired By: A Collection'

The project "Inspired By: A Collection" began as a desire to visually respond to songs and albums that deeply moved Ben, often being played thousands of times. This emotional response was transformed into graphic and typographic posters, often illustrative, that reflect the song lyrics and their physical and conceptual meanings. 

Most of the songs that inspired the project were intense, heavy tracks with shouted lyrics that are sometimes difficult to discern, performed by bands that uphold DIY ethics, hard work, and humanism. 

When the time felt right, Ben decided to compile the songs that inspired the posters into a continually expanding live playlist. To accompany the playlist, Ben created a cover that aligns his creative process with the work ethic of the bands, emphasizing relentless effort and transcending geographical boundaries. The cover, both static and animated, serves as a manifesto for the project.

Ben Riback is a visual designer from Tel-Aviv who specializes in motion graphics and has a lifelong passion for illustration and lettering. His professional journey began with painting graffiti and murals, eventually leading him to study Visual Communications at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem, where he concentrated on editorial design, motion graphics, and illustration. Ben’s work is characterized by its expressiveness, rich detail, and vibrancy. He often seeks to translate textual material and sound into graphic compositions, delivering a clear message and offering a fresh perspective on the subject matter, while also creating a space for new interpretations.

Living in the complex environment of Israel, Ben feels a constant need to address the injustices occurring in his country through his art, presenting them in a direct and critical manner. At times, he creates safe spaces within his work to express ideas shaped by the ongoing situation in Israel. In his projects, Ben consistently engages with this enduring tension, taking a stance against it and hoping for a brighter future.
