In a vibrant collaboration that bridges design and purpose, Truth & Consequences partnered with In Color Birding, an all-volunteer organization based in Philadelphia, to reimagine their brand identity and website. Founded in 2021, In Color Birding was born out of a mission to create a welcoming space for the BIPOC community and their allies within the world of birding—a hobby often perceived as lacking diversity and inclusion.
As part of their commitment to 1% for the Planet, Truth & Consequences donated a full visual rebrand and digital overhaul for the organization, helping to further amplify its reach and message. The result is a lively, joyful identity system that captures the spirit of community, nature, and connection.
At the center of the new brand is a striking bird icon composed of three intersecting shapes. It comes in single-color and tri-color variations, with the primary version showcasing a bright red, yellow, and blue palette—an energetic reflection of the diversity and vibrancy of the birding community In Color aims to foster.
The accompanying wordmark is rooted in Bookman, a classic transitional serif known for its warmth and readability. But here, it’s been lovingly reworked: the serifs and contours subtly echo the organic curves of wings and beaks, making the typography as expressive as it is legible.
Color plays a starring role throughout the new system. Each hue in the palette is inspired by birds native to the Philadelphia region—Sparrow, Dove, Bluejay, Cardinal, Goldfinch, Mallard, Oriole, and Raven—adding a local, nature-driven authenticity to the brand. These tones appear across an extended system of badges, logos, and modular design elements, all crafted to help the organization maintain a cohesive look across social content, promo materials, and merchandise.
Typography in the new system is powered by Agrandir, a character-rich variable font from Pangram Pangram. Combined with a modular layout inspired by trail markers, it offers an adaptable, playful visual language that feels just as much at home in the woods as it does online.
For Truth & Consequences—a creative agency of truthful partners who make consequential work—this project exemplifies their belief that design can be a tool for community empowerment.
