Jun Youp Bong is a brand designer based in Seoul, South Korea. He ventured into independence early last year and has been thriving as a solo designer ever since. His primary style emphasizes typography-centric and illustration-based designs, blending creativity and precision to create visually striking works. When designing, he prioritizes the client's preferences and satisfaction, ensuring that each project aligns perfectly with their vision. By fulfilling their diverse needs, he has developed a versatile portfolio that spans various styles. Although he initially struggled with not having a distinct style, this diversity has now become his defining characteristic. Currently, he is working on several illustration brands and a bold typography brand, and he plans to explore even more diverse designs in the future.
Kihei Coffee was his inaugural client in 2020, marking a significant milestone in his career. Named after a region in Maui, Hawaii, Kihei Coffee’s branding reflects the vibrant essence of its namesake. The orange color and gradient used in their branding were inspired by the breathtaking Kihei sunset. Four years later, Kihei Coffee began roasting, and Jun was tasked with designing the packaging for their new line of roasting products. Given the diverse coffee lineup, he created gradient colors tailored to each variety, drawing inspiration from Kihei’s natural surroundings. These colors were skillfully applied to coffee bean bag boxes and drip bag boxes, enhancing their visual appeal. At the client’s request, Jun also added illustrations to the canned coffee labels, depicting joyful scenes of people surfing at Kihei Beach, further capturing the lively spirit of the region. This project not only showcased his ability to blend color and illustration but also highlighted his talent for creating meaningful and culturally resonant designs.
