Jake Brossman is a senior graphic design student at Drexel University’s prestigious Westphal College of Media Arts and Design in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His passion for design spans multiple disciplines, with a particular focus on blending visual storytelling, art, and innovation. In addition to his academic pursuits, Jake is the co-founder and creative force behind EARTHPILOT Independent Clothing Co., a unique streetwear brand that draws inspiration from the raw energy and resilience of Philadelphia, as well as his personal artistic influences. The brand embodies a fusion of urban culture, bold design, and a commitment to individuality.
As he prepares to graduate in June, Jake is looking forward to the next chapter in his career. With a deep desire to push creative boundaries, he plans to relocate to New York City, where he hopes to immerse himself in its vibrant design scene and take his career to new heights. With a strong foundation in both graphic design and entrepreneurship, Jake is ready to bring his vision and creativity to the world stage.
For this project, students were tasked with creating a cohesive visual system for a series of three books by an assigned author. The challenge was to link the books through design, despite their separate narratives, by emphasizing shared themes and messages.
The series, featuring Ray Bradbury's *Fahrenheit 451*, *Death Is a Lonely Business*, and *The Martian Chronicles*, explores themes of imperialism, oppression, and dystopian realities. These concepts are conveyed typographically through bold, dark text, creating a sense of impending tension.
Each book is distinguished by its own color palette and an icon representing a key element of its story. The vertical label design evokes a regulatory, governmental feel, reinforcing the dystopian atmosphere. The result is a unified visual identity that reflects the common themes across the books.
