Connected Wight is a web portal designed to showcase the Isle of Wight's ideal work/life balance. It aims to connect residents, visitors, enterprises, and more, serving as a guide to the island's resources and promoting its vibrant life within a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
Thump Studio was tasked with creating a bold and energetic identity for the Isle of Wight that emphasizes connection. The brand is designed to be distinct and recognizable to both locals and outsiders. The project was initiated by the four founders of Connected Wight, all with creative industry backgrounds. They collaborated with designers who had a youthful perspective and passion for the Isle of Wight, aiming to develop an identity that reflects the island's beauty. The visual direction aimed to capture the essence of the Isle of Wight, portraying it as a thriving environment with both tranquil spots and exciting events. The identity uses soft-toned photography for calmness and a striking typeface with bright colors for energy.
A contemporary typographic style was crucial. Thump Studio chose Mānuka by Klim Type Foundry for its boldness and focus, complemented by Family for a softer touch. This combination creates a compelling and balanced visual identity.
Thump Studio chose a vibrant pink instead of the typical blue to make the brand stand out. An extended color palette with bright colors for the nine sectors enhances navigation and complements the core colors, "Chalk White" and "Deep Sea Blue," reflecting the island's charm through contrasting elements.
Founded by the dynamic and passionate husband-and-wife team Sam and Katie, Thump Studio operates from the picturesque Isle of Wight. Sam has spent over a decade in the brand and design industry, crafting stunning and impactful identities for both emerging businesses and global brands. Katie, with her experience as a brand guardian for a global skincare company, has executed industry-leading creatives and maintained consistency across all print and digital platforms. Together, they form a unique team of designers, strategists, and creative thinkers, ready to propel your business forward. They draw inspiration from their surroundings, often brainstorming during beach walks or late-night snacks, making their best ideas come from organic conversations rather than just sitting behind screens. Their continuous, immersive approach to work is what sets their partnership apart.
